Reflective writing

I was very happy with how these two weeks went, as I was able to learn a lot and the flow and pace of the project were really my style.

I liked the idea of responding to the 16 prompts in a short amount of time, as it was a good opportunity to give our immediate responses to those prompts. While doing the prompts, I was also able to link some of them together and realise that different prompts can generate similar ideas and opinions. For me, these responses were very useful as they act as a basis for us to further develop our ideas, and we were quickly able to see which response we gravitate more towards.

Then, I liked the fact that we were given a full week to further develop our project. Coming out from design week, I always thought that the short amount of time given was bad as I wasn't really able to let some ideas sink in, as well as develop ideas with substance as fully. I also didn't have much time to gather opinions from teachers and other students, as well as materials I need, Therefore, making it hard for me to push the final piece to its greatest potential. However, this rotation was very different. I was able to collect and incorporate in my design feedback from tutors and classmates, so I can present a final piece that's more relatable and has more depth.

I also learned a lot in terms of combining imagery and words to convey a message. At the beginning of the rotation, I relied more on the images and less on the words to convey my message. But a teacher told me the importance of using accurate wording and putting them in suitable places to fully conveying the message that I hope to convey. Therefore, in my final piece, I tried to make the phrases short but memorable and impactful, so that the questions I want to ask and the messages I want to pass on are clear.

I also hope to further develop this project. When asked to make a final piece, I wanted to make the piece in the scale of a real skyscraper, but obviously that is way too ambitious for what I have now. So I hope some day in the future, I will be able to up the scale to the actual IFC, making it impactful for not only the studio, but obviously to the whole of Hong Kong or possibly the world. Also, I may consider making a collection of toilet rolls on buildings, such as in the Tiananmen Square like in my drafts. Having a collection means that people from different countries can relate to the imagery and graphics more, and it definitely will be useful in branding myself.
